Bergson, Henri Louis
(1859 – 1941)
Born ironically in the same year of the publication of Darwin’s Origin of Species, Henri Bergson had major issues with Darwinian evolution & the power of natural selection to explain how information got there in the first place (so that natural selection could act upon it); why did nature continue to get increasingly complex way after it was complex enough – i.e bacterial life had no reason to be naturally selected – it was doing just fine etc, etc. This Nobel prize winner wrote a book entitled: Creative Evolution and proposes a very plausible & thoroughly non-Darwinian alternative to the mechanistic, reductionist theory of evolution we have to put up with today.
